About the position

The English Language Training Instructor at Sheppard AFB, TX, is responsible for delivering comprehensive English language instruction to students in a total immersion environment. The role involves utilizing Defense Language Institute English Language Center (DLIELC) courseware and methodologies to enhance students' English language skills, ensuring compliance with DLIELC standards and procedures. The instructor will adapt teaching methods to accommodate both in-person and distance learning formats, depending on safety and security measures. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to address discipline issues and maintain academic standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide English Language Training (ELT) using DLIELC courseware and methodologies.
  • Comply with DLIELC test administration and security procedures.
  • Deliver face-to-face instruction for six hours a day, five days a week, using DLIELC's American Language Course (ALC) materials.
  • Prepare for instruction and other DLIELC processes for two hours a day.
  • Replicate instruction through distance learning when in-person attendance is not possible.
  • Augment course material with military and aviation terminology as needed.
  • Instill improved English language skills at a pace that meets DLIELC standards.
  • Manage classroom sizes of up to six students, with potential for eight in the future.
  • Develop disciplinary processes for students in the academic environment.
  • Enforce standards outlined in the 82 Training Wing and RSAF F-5 Fleet Modernization Program.
  • Document and report on student attendance and tardiness issues in compliance with AFI 16-105.
  • Collaborate with TPM/COR and RSAF Country Liaison Officer to resolve discipline issues.

Requirements

  • A 4-year degree in English as a Second Language (ESL), English as a Foreign Language (EFL), Linguistics, Foreign Languages, or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
  • Combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in ESL, EFL, Linguistics, or related fields.
  • At least one year of specialized experience in English or foreign language instruction.
  • Experience in teaching ESL/EFL to adults from basic to advanced levels.
  • Ability to plan, prepare, and coordinate instructional activities for adult students.
  • Experience in creating and managing student assessment techniques and objectives.
  • Completed three full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education or a Ph.D. in relevant disciplines.
