About The Position

This position holds responsibility for the success of the Electrical Residential and Electrical Apprenticeship programs. This instructor must ensure that a positive, upbeat, diversified, interesting, and active learning environment occurs in both classrooms and labs, giving the students relevant and worthwhile experiences daily. The responsibilities include planning, organizing, and implementing an effective instructional training program in a professional learning environment that guides, encourages, and enables students to develop into industry professionals. Dixie Tech is a public technical college with a state-of-the-art campus in St. George, Utah. The College has 29 Council on Occupational Education accredited programs that offer certifications in high-demand, high-pay professions. The position has a salary of between $65,000 and $79,000 per year, depending upon qualifications and experience. The position requires working two nights per week for the Spring and Fall semester when classes are held.

Requirements

  • Journeyman License required.
  • 7+ years' experience in industry required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree or Industry Recognized Certificate Program completion.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Teaching/training experience preferred.
  • Contacts with local industry preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office/Google Suite applications.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as sitting, standing, reaching, lifting, bending, kneeling, stooping, climbing, pushing, and pulling items weighing 50 pounds or less.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in daily lectures and quality hands-on lab-based instruction.
  • Create and update classroom syllabi, curriculum, lab experiences, and lesson plans.
  • Develop and execute active and diverse learning experiences.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives and well-defined competencies.
  • Prepare classroom and lab for daily learning activities.
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments in a timely manner.
  • Structure classes in Canvas to support student learning.
  • Observe, evaluate, and record student's performance and development.
  • Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing appropriate rules and procedures.
  • Ensure objectives for all program students are reflected on each syllabi.
  • Ensure that students are retained and that they graduate, complete, pass any relevant licensure exams, and are placed.
  • Meet or exceed performance metrics for the program established by VP of Instruction.
  • Maintain integrity and confidentiality in all circumstances.
  • Stay up-to-date in industry advancements and adjust curriculum where appropriate.
  • Work with the department director, admissions, and recruiters to fill cohorts.
  • Develop and propose admissions standards that will enhance student success.
  • Assure safety standards comply with all guidelines.
  • Model a professional environment for the students.
  • Schedule industry professionals for specialized presentations and training.
  • Supervise, recruit, train, support, and assist adjunct instructors as needed.
  • Be an active and participative member of the department team.
  • Ensure the program follows all guidelines for COE accreditation.
  • Participate in documenting, collecting, and placing Standard 2 criteria evidence.
  • Assist with biannual Occupational Advisory Committee (OAC) meetings.
  • Develop an active network of industry partners and assist students in obtaining employment.
  • Ensure program spending is within established budgets.
  • Seek to continuously improve teaching skills and increase technical knowledge.
  • Compliance with Dixie Tech Policies and Procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
