About The Position

Under the general direction and supervision of the Dean and Associate Dean, the Developmental Mathematics Instructor is responsible for providing instruction in various courses in a classroom, online, and/or distance learning environment. Teaching assignments for this position may include but are not limited to Math Fundamentals, Modular Math, Beginning Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, and Business Math. This full-time regular position is also responsible for obtaining instructional supplies and materials, assisting in the selection of textbooks, advising students, and working with the program and college committees.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Math or Math Education with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in mathematics.
  • Two (2) years of teaching experience at secondary or post-secondary level that applies directly to area(s) of instructional responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to students according to the objectives of each course assigned by employing diverse teaching methods appropriate to individual student needs to accommodate various levels of academic preparation.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies that are appropriate to the setting, best practice, and individual student needs, and must include engaged learning techniques.
  • Use technology, such as graphing calculators and computers.
  • Develop a grading system for each class and maintain accurate records on student attendance, performance, and progress.
  • Participate in and/or provide data for department and general education assessment.
  • Remain current in the field and with best practices in teaching and learning through self-study and participation in professional development such as in-service activities/training, conferences, workshops, and professional enrichment activities.
  • Contribute to department initiatives and support others will be expected and supported.
  • Attend, participate in, and support all department, division, and college activities and committees as requested and serve on assigned teams.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and innovation of the College and department.
  • Serve as academic advisor to assigned students, assisting them in developing academic plans, selecting and registering for courses.
  • Advise potential or current students within the discipline about the program, career, or transfer options available to assist with degree completion.
  • Refer students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College or in the community.
  • Explain college policies and procedures to students and complete all records and forms necessary.
  • In cooperation with other department faculty, develop and/or revise written course objectives, content, descriptions, and instructional strategies as required.
  • Develop, revise, and maintain written classroom policies, grading structures, and strategies.
  • Each new instructor will develop an individualized development plan in cooperation with the Vice President of Instruction.
  • Work with their immediate supervisor to develop an annual plan of professional development and improvement.
  • Assist in maintaining security for all College equipment and materials.
  • Provide information and data to assist in the preparation of budgets, course schedules, short and long-range plans, and other required reports.
  • The instructor may have additional duties and responsibilities of supervising and coordinating the activities of the program and its faculty if assigned to be Program Director/Department Chair.
  • Support and promote an environment of belonging where all students, faculty members, and college employees feel welcomed, valued, and empowered to contribute.
