The College of Health Education and Human Sciences recognizes that its programs and faculty are diverse and, therefore, each individual faculty member’s workload responsibilities vary. Thus, department chairs, program directors, and mentors (when appropriate) will work with each faculty member annually. This is a 9-month faculty position. Responsibilities include classroom, clinical, and laboratory teaching; student advising and recruiting; annual evaluations and service to the college. The position reports directly to the Dental Hygiene Executive Director.

Requirements

  • Must possess a masters or higher degree in dental hygiene or related field.
  • Must be a graduate from a dental hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
  • Must have a minimum of two years’ clinical experience.
  • Must hold a current unencumbered RDH license with a local anesthesia and nitrous oxide certificate.
  • Must be current in CPR and hold an Arkansas state license or be eligible to obtain an Arkansas RDH license.
  • To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position: Have expertise in alternate learning strategies such as Blackboard Learning Systems, EagleSoft Dental Software, Navigate, Banner, TalEval and a variety of software. Efficient in Microsoft applications and technology.
  • If hired, must comply with blood borne pathogen prevention protocol and with Sentry MD documentation as a part of UAFS CHEHS faculty requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Hold a Master’s degree or higher in dental hygiene or related field or be currently enrolled in a Master’s program.
  • Preferred experience of more than five years’ clinical practice and/or preferred experience in instructional methods and evaluation procedures in higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the theoretical and clinical instruction as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Collaborates with peers and the Executive Director in regards to development, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum.
  • Participates in academic advising and counseling.
  • Participates in recruitment and retention of students in the Dental Hygiene Program.
  • Maintains security and confidentiality of all records and examinations.
  • Assumes responsibility for adhering to policies related to examinations and preparing test items.
  • Attends and participates in meetings as scheduled by the Executive Director and Dean of the College of Health Education and Human Sciences.
  • Adheres to course objectives and program outcomes in developing appropriate class content and objectives.
  • Participates in the faculty, student, and program evaluation process.
  • Faculty are expected to engage in teaching, scholarship and service and to perform duties in a manner consistent with UAFS Core Values.
  • Uses appropriate instructional resources to facilitate student progress toward meeting objectives.
  • Maintains appropriate records regarding student evaluation and progress.
  • Maintains office hours for consultation.
  • Assists in the development of standards for the admission, progression, and graduation of dental hygiene students.
  • Serves as a professional role model for the student.
  • Participates in campus wide and community service activities in ways that benefit the surrounding community, UA Fort Smith, College of Health Education and Human Sciences, Dental Hygiene Program, faculty, and students.
  • Participates in professional and community activities for the purpose of bringing education, service, and research findings together for the improvement of dental care.
  • Consistently participates in scholarly and/or service activities.
  • Maintains a hard copy or disk copy of all lecture material on file in the Dental Hygiene Program.
  • Promotes the goals, objectives and reputation of the Dental Hygiene Program with the College of Health Education and Human Sciences, UA Fort Smith, and community.
  • Participates in continuing education programs to remain current in practice.
  • Participates in professional and community activities; theoretical and clinical instruction as assigned.
  • Promotes cohesiveness between faculty and students in the Dental Hygiene Program.
  • Furnishes evidence of current CPR certification, TB skin test or any health documentation required on an annual basis.
  • Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork and to provide leadership for subordinates.
  • Responsible for maintaining consistent on-time attendance.
