About The Position

The Department of Psychiatry is recruiting for a Clinical Supervisor of the Avel Gordly Center for Healing. The Clinical Supervisor provides direct mental health and addictions clinical services in a culturally competent manner to outpatient clients by providing evaluation, individual, group, family counseling, case management and timely documentation of clinical services consistent with program standards and relevant OARs. The Clinical Supervisor also provides clinical supervision of counseling staff and students working in the program including individual and group supervision, supervision for licensure, performance evaluations, staff training and scheduling of clinical program staff. The Clinical Supervisor ensures the highest quality of behavioral health care and is responsible for consultation on patient cases, quality assurance activities, periodic outreach events and programmatic consultation. The Clinical Supervisor must have a Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology or another related behavioral health discipline. Clinical licensure as an LCSW, LPC or LMFT is required for this position.

Requirements

  • Clinical licensure as an LCSW, LPC or LMFT
  • Must have a combination of clinical training and experience to meet the standards of the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Oregon Board of Licensed Clinical Social Workers as a qualified clinical supervisor.
  • Must have a Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology or another related behavioral health discipline.
  • Clinical supervisors in all programs shall demonstrate competence in leadership, cultural responsiveness, oversight and evaluation of services, staff development, assessment, person-centered treatment planning, case management and coordination, utilization of community resources; group, family, and individual therapy or counseling; documentation and rationale for services to promote intended outcomes; and implementation of all provider policies.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to conduct an assessment, including identifying precipitating events, gathering histories of mental and physical health, substance use, past mental health services and criminal justice contacts, assessing family, cultural, social and work relationships, and conducting a mental status examination, complete and justify a DSM diagnosis, write and supervise the implementation of a Service Plan and provide individual, family or group therapy within the scope of their training.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge and skill in providing evidence-based treatment of mental health and addictive disorders.
  • Must have cultural competence in working with the African and African-American communities, as demonstrated by the following: In-depth knowledge of impact of African-American history on African-American culture and psychology; Ability to work clinically with issues of systematic oppression, racism and discrimination, including teaching clients a comprehensive skill set to deal with these concerns; Ability to assist clients in developing a healthy African or African-American identity; Two plus years of working with African-Americans and/or Africans; and Five or more years of experience of immersion in African-American culture.
  • For treatment staff holding a health or allied provider license, the license or registration must have been issued by one of the following state bodies and have at least 60 contact hours of academic or continuing professional education in substance use disorders treatment: Board of Medical Examiners Board of Psychologist Examiners Board of Licensed Social Workers Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists Board of Nursing

Responsibilities

  • Provide 60% direct clinical services to program clients including evaluation, individual, group, family counseling, case management and documentation of clinical services consistent with program standards and relevant OARs. Services provided will reflect cultural competence and knowledge of evidenced based practices regarding the clients and their clinical concerns.
  • Provide clinical supervision of counseling staff and students working in the program including individual and group supervision, supervision for licensure: Clinical staff providing direct services shall receive clinical supervision by a qualified clinical supervisor related to the development, implementation, and outcome of services: Supervision shall be provided to assist program staff to increase their skills within their scope of practice, improve quality of services to individuals, and supervise program staff and volunteers’ compliance with program policies and procedures: Documentation of two hours per month of supervision for each individual supervised. The two hours shall include one hour of individual face-to-face contact or a proportional level of supervision for part-time program staff. Individual face-to-face contact may include real time, two-way audio visual conferencing. Documentation of two hours of quarterly supervision for program staff holding a health or allied provider license. The two hours shall include at least one hour of individual face-to-face contact for each individual supervised. Individual face-to-face contact may include real time, two-way audio visual conferencing. Documentation of weekly supervision for program staff meeting the definition of mental health intern.
  • Participate in quality management activities including participation on the Quality Improvement Committee and conducting audits of client records to assure accuracy and appropriateness of clinical care.
  • Attend staff meetings as required and other program and departmental meetings as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other program staff, Department of Psychiatry, and other OHSU departments, referral sources and other community agencies.
  • Collaborate with management team and other clinical staff, including medical providers, to assure the effective, efficient and appropriate utilization of clinic resources.
  • Meet clinical productivity standards as established for the position.
  • Participate in outreach, training and teaching opportunities within the university and community.
