About The Position

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine (UCCOM) has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. The Department of Family & Community Medicine has played a leading role in fellow, resident, and medical student education since 1974 and continues to focus on improving the health of members of our Cincinnati community and beyond, with a special focus on medically underserved patients. With faculty expertise in areas such as primary care research, palliative care, geriatrics, global health and integrative medicine, the department is advancing the college's commitment to cultivating learning environments, fostering research and scholarship, and providing innovative patient care. The Department of Family and Community Medicine (UCDFM) is recruiting two (2) physicians for a Global Health (GH) Fellowship. The UCDFCM Global Health (GH) Fellowship is a one (1) or two (2) year family medicine fellowship designed for physicians interested in caring for underserved/vulnerable populations while strengthening their clinical and scholarly skills in global health. The two-year fellowship includes the option for tuition remission for completion of Masters of Public Health (MPH) in Global Health.

Requirements

  • Completion of a US ACGME-accredited Family Medicine Residency in good standing.
  • ABFM Board Certification.
  • Medical licensure in the State of Ohio.

Nice To Haves

  • CCLA-level fluency in Spanish is ideal.
  • Foundational knowledge in global health, such as the completion of a 1-month medical school course or residency rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Improve their ability to provide high-quality clinical care to meet the needs of patients in low-resource settings and vulnerable populations.
  • Develop scholarship, public health, and cross-cultural experience with one of our international partner non-governmental organizations.
  • Develop leadership, teaching, and scholarship skills and experience as a UC department faculty member in the Division of Global & Underserved Health.
  • Provide primary care for underserved and immigrant/refugee patients for approximately 24+hrs/week at a City of Cincinnati Primary Care location.
  • Work with one of our international partners in improving their healthcare mission. Spend four weeks per year in-country as well as longitudinal involvement in our well-established partnership.
  • Contribute to the academic mission of the Global and Underserved Health Division in the area of Global Health by teaching residents and medical students.
