About The Position

Under the general direction and supervision of the Associate Dean, the Instructor, Business is responsible for instructing students in various academic courses in a classroom setting or online. Teaching assignments for this position include, but are not limited to, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Personal Finance, and other courses as assigned, including Student Success. The instructor develops courses, course objectives, implements teaching strategies, advises students, monitors, and evaluates student progress, and keeps accurate student records. This is a full-time, regular position.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Finance, Economics, or a closely related business discipline, with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Economics and/or Finance.
  • Two (2) years of work experience in a business setting or secondary or post-secondary teaching experience in business education.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, or a closely related business discipline may be accepted in place of a completed Master's Degree, provided the applicant commits to earning a Master's Degree within two (2) years of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to students according to the objectives of each course assigned, including Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, and Personal Finance.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies in the classroom, including lecture, small groups, labs for working problems, and computer utilization for simulations, spreadsheets, and report generation.
  • Prepare and administer evaluation instruments and maintain accurate student records on attendance, achievement, and progress.
  • Increase and improve personal teaching and subject knowledge through supplemental sources such as in-service activities, conferences, workshops, technical updates, and personal self-study.
  • Attend scheduled Business/Division/College staff meetings and serve on committees and teams, including assessment and strategic planning.
  • Serve as an academic adviser to approximately 60-80 students, assisting them in selecting and registering for courses and reviewing their files at least once per semester.
  • Develop and/or revise course objectives, content, descriptions, and instructional strategies on approved college curriculum forms.
  • Review, evaluate, and recommend textbooks for course use.
  • Instruct students on the use/application of appropriate computer software such as Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and Outlook.
  • Interact with colleagues, students, staff, and supervisors to project a positive image of the program and the college.
  • Develop an individualized development plan in cooperation with the Vice President of Instruction for new instructors.
  • Support and promote an environment of belonging where all students, faculty members, and college employees feel welcomed, valued, and empowered.
