The position is for a faculty member in the School of Transportation & Applied Technology at SOWELA, responsible for teaching assigned aviation maintenance technology courses and associated labs. The faculty member will facilitate instruction using engaging and hands-on delivery methods, maintain adherence to school policy, and participate in the assessment and development of student learning outcomes. Additional responsibilities include preparing course proposals, maintaining accurate student records, collaborating with colleagues, advising students, and ensuring compliance with FAA and ATMAE accreditation requirements.

  • Teach assigned aviation maintenance technology courses and associated labs.
  • Facilitate instruction using engaging and hands-on delivery methods.
  • Maintain familiarity and adherence to school policy.
  • Participate in the assessment and development of student learning outcomes.
  • Establish, maintain, and submit accurate student and instructional records in a timely manner.
  • Prepare course proposals, curriculum, instructional materials, and evaluation tools.
  • Work as part of an instructional team by participating in aviation maintenance course scheduling and meetings.
  • Serve on college committees as assigned.
  • Maintain partnerships with local area employers for student field experiences.
  • Participate in job fairs, recruiting events, and other special events.
  • Maintain and recommend needed equipment and supplies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on teaching and accreditation compliance matters.
  • Advise students in academic and vocational curricula and career planning.
  • Contact and meet with potential new students and employers.
  • Utilize and maintain an advisory committee of stakeholders.
  • Develop and provide instruction using comprehensive course outlines and lesson plans.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom and lab environment.
  • Maintain professional teacher-to-student interactions.
  • Collect, track, and evaluate graduate data and surveys.
  • Attend administrative and instructor development meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with FAA and ATMAE accreditation requirements.
  • Attend all commencements and convocations.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • 5 years of related industry or equivalent military experience.
  • FAA A & P certification.
  • Associate degree in Aviation Maintenance.
  • 5 years of related industry or equivalent military experience.
  • 3 years of teaching in post-secondary education or military equivalent.
  • 3 years of leadership experience or military equivalent.
