As a Swim Lesson Instructor, you’ll play a key role in keeping our community safe while creating a fun, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. POSITION SUMMARY Instructor Aquatics, working as part of the Aquatics team, will deliver world-class customer service and relationship building skills to create a welcoming environment at the YMCA. The individual will be responsible for providing a safe swim instruction for participants. The incumbent will also exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA. Requirements

  • Comfort in the water and enthusiasm for teaching
  • Ability to connect with children and families
  • Dependable, responsible, and safety-minded
  • Swim instructor certification (or willingness to obtain—we’ll help!)
  • Minimum 16 years of age
  • Swim Lesson Certification or Experience in coaching, swim team, or swim lessons.
  • Listen First within 6 months of hire or an action plan in place
  • CPR/AED and First Aid within 30 days of hire
  • Strong communication and listening skills are required

Responsibilities

  • Teach swim lessons to children and adults of varying skill levels
  • Create a positive, encouraging experience for every participant
  • Follow YMCA swim curriculum and safety standards
  • Build relationships with members and families rooted in caring and respect
  • Always maintain pool safety during swimming lessons; deliver lessons that provide students the best opportunity to acquire skills for their level
  • Educate participants on pool rules and enforce rules as required
  • Remain current on all CPR, First Aid and other safety certification training
  • Report all accidents and incidents to your supervisor immediately using proper forms
  • Be visible to members at all times-work towards branch membership retention goals
  • Keep daily attendance records and complete level skill sheets
  • Be in the water 50-100% of class time
  • Communicate with all participants/parents if class is being cancelled and/or rescheduled
  • Be knowledgeable and supportive of the YMCA annual support campaign, and general procedures and policies, including personnel guidelines, facility access procedures, membership policies, and emergency plans
