We’re looking for a passionate, reliable Swim Instructor to join our aquatics team year-round. Why This Role Matters In Colorado, water safety saves lives. As a Swim Instructor, you’ll help participants of all ages — from toddlers to adults — gain confidence, strength, and essential safety skills in and around the water. POSITION SUMMARY Instructor Aquatics, working as part of the Aquatics team, will deliver world-class customer service and relationship building skills to create a welcoming environment at the YMCA. The individual will be responsible for providing a safe swim instruction for participants. The incumbent will also exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA. Requirements

  • Comfortable and confident in the water
  • High energy and positive attitude
  • Strong communication skills
  • Reliable and safety-minded
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends
  • Minimum 16 years of age
  • Swim Lesson Certification
  • Listen First within 6 months of hire or an action plan in place
  • CPR/AED and First Aid within 30 days of hire
  • Strong communication and listening skills are required

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Lead engaging swim lessons for participants of all ages and skill levels
  • Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive aquatic environment
  • Adapt instruction to support different abilities and comfort levels
  • Provide encouragement and constructive feedback
  • Communicate clearly with families and program staff
  • Always maintain pool safety during swimming lessons; deliver lessons that provide students the best opportunity to acquire skills for their level
  • Educate participants on pool rules and enforce rules as required
  • Remain current on all CPR, First Aid and other safety certification training
  • Report all accidents and incidents to your supervisor immediately using proper forms
  • Be visible to members at all times-work towards branch membership retention goals
  • Keep daily attendance records and complete level skill sheets
  • Be in the water 50-100% of class time
  • Communicate with all participants/parents if class is being cancelled and/or rescheduled
  • Be knowledgeable and supportive of the YMCA annual support campaign, and general procedures and policies, including personnel guidelines, facility access procedures, membership policies, and emergency plans
