About The Position

The Instructor for Adult Education - GED Math at Waterbury Public Schools is responsible for facilitating learning and academic achievement among out-of-school youth and adults. This part-time position, which operates on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., focuses on providing instruction in remedial health education classes, literacy, and preparatory classes for the General Educational Development (GED) examination. The instructor will adapt content material and methods to develop relevant sequential activities that guide and challenge students, ensuring that the curriculum is tailored to meet the diverse needs of individual students. The role requires a strong understanding of educational philosophy, teaching methods, and best practices, as well as the ability to utilize instructional technologies effectively. In this position, the instructor will continuously monitor student progress, evaluate performance through various assessments, and maintain accurate records of student attendance and achievement. The instructor will also be expected to integrate technology into classroom instruction and collaborate with other staff members to develop cohesive curricula materials. The role emphasizes the importance of creating a safe and conducive learning environment, where students feel supported and encouraged to achieve their academic goals. The instructor will also participate in professional development activities to maintain and enhance their teaching skills and knowledge. This position is grant-funded and does not offer benefits, existing only as long as funds are available. The instructor will report to the Principal or another administrative official of a higher grade, and the role requires a valid Connecticut Teaching Certificate with the appropriate endorsement. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree and have experience in an urban educational setting, demonstrating a commitment to fostering an inclusive and effective learning environment for all students.
