The position is for an unclassified faculty member in the School of Business & Applied Technology at SOWELA. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching, developing course materials, and participating in various academic and community activities. The role requires adherence to accreditation standards and involves both classroom and online instruction. The faculty member will also engage in professional development and may serve as an advisor for student organizations.

  • Participates in local business and industry activities.
  • Utilizes the approved curriculum and develops clearly stated course objectives and learning outcomes.
  • Organizes instruction in classrooms and online, evidenced by course outlines, lesson plans, competency tests, and instructional materials.
  • Participates in an advisory committee to ensure relevant practices of the occupation are taught.
  • Responsible for student completion, placement, and retention rates to meet accrediting agencies' standards.
  • Provides training in essential competencies for success in the occupation.
  • Provides advisement services to assigned advisees.
  • Evaluates follow-up data from completers and employers to improve program quality.
  • Attends all commencement ceremonies and meetings, preparing reports as necessary.
  • Serves on Department, School, and/or College committees.
  • Participates in professional development.
  • May serve as a student organization advisor.
  • May require travel to other SOWELA instructional sites.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • MBA plus 18 graduate hours in accounting OR master's degree in accounting.
  • Must meet SACSCOC credentialing requirements.
  • Three years of relevant teaching experience - on campus and online.
  • Adhere to all applicable Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) policies.
  • Proficiency in the use of standard office equipment and computers, including Internet, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to create a positive learning environment using innovative and diverse teaching methods.
  • Demonstrates professional growth and improvement, maintaining a professional appearance.
  • Maintains current reference materials to facilitate educational program objectives.
  • Ensures a healthy, safe, and secure classroom/lab environment.
  • Requests adequate equipment and supplies to support the program.
  • Ensures tests and assessments of student achievement are accurate.
  • Self-starter capable of initiating and completing work with little supervision.
  • Ability to make independent decisions demonstrating good judgment.
  • Ability to teach accounting courses (minimum of 18 graduate hours in accounting) and business administration courses (MBA).
  • Proficiency in Canvas LMS.
  • QuickBooks certification.
  • Microsoft Excel certification.
  • CPA certification.
  • Three years of work experience in the field of accounting.
