About The Position

The Instructional Veterinary Nurse I, under direct supervision, participates in the instruction of undergraduate-level courses to meet the needs of the Veterinary Technology Program. This includes hands-on laboratory responsibilities and may include classroom-lecture instruction. Assists veterinary staff with medical management of program animals and medical cases including daily husbandry, supportive care and medical treatments.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program with an associate’s degree in veterinary technology or related field
  • Three years of related experience
  • Knowledge of common veterinary practices and procedures in a working veterinary practice setting, laboratory and didactic teaching methods
  • Ability to multitask, communicate and cooperate well with others
  • Advanced computing skills

Responsibilities

  • Effectively instruct students in all content included in assigned VETT courses
  • Maintain classroom and laboratory spaces and assist with quality control on equipment and facility cleanliness/maintenance
  • Support student success through ready availability, mentoring and advising
  • Ensure accurate entry and completion of medical records
  • Assist in the management of medical cases
  • Support other instructors in class/laboratory settings, as needed
  • Maintain professional licensure and stay current on veterinary medicine affairs
  • Participate in the academic affairs of the department, college, and university
  • Provide veterinary assistance for research projects
  • Participate in recruitment of students and educate others through facility tours, public speaking engagements, and career fairs
