About The Position

The Instructional Technologist collaborates with faculty content experts and members of The Graduate School’s instructional design and creative services team to develop technology-rich teaching and learning materials, create new e-learning content, and build courses within the School’s Learning Management System (e.g., Canvas). Working closely with team members, this role helps plan, organize, implement, review, and deploy online learning modules in alignment with faculty needs and instructional design specifications. The Instructional Technologist is responsible for testing and maintaining deployed content, with a strong emphasis on ensuring compliance with UNC’s Digital Accessibility Standards, resolving technical issues, and regularly updating course materials. The position also involves identifying and supporting new educational technologies and tools to ensure a seamless user experience, including troubleshooting new features and verifying that course sites function correctly. In addition, the Instructional Technologist provides LMS technical expertise and supports instructional, educational, and multimedia content development for students, faculty, and staff. This position reports directly to the Instructional Design Manager.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and familiarity with online course management and instructional design process
  • Able to work as an independent developer managing the demands of multiple projects and creatively handling resource and time conflicts
  • Strong project management skills with a keen eye for project milestones and timelines

  • Experience with instructional design tools such as DesignPlus
  • Ability to navigate and understand new technologies and a strong grasp of various technologies, such as: H5P, VoiceThread, Poll Everywhere, Qualtrics, Teams Office 365, Zoom, Panopto, Padlet, Canva, etc.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite for graphics and video editing
  • Experience with post-production tasks including video and audio editing, effects, branding and file compression
  • Familiarity with institutional effectiveness issues and other institutional assessment concepts
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as MS Planner, Asana, Trello, etc.
  • Familiarity with AI tools such as HeyGen, Napkin, Invideo, ChatGPT, WellSaid Labs, etc.
  • Proficient with Web markup languages including HTML , XML , and Cascading Style Sheets
