About The Position

The Instructional Technologist provides essential technical support to VUSN by building and configuring courses within the institution's learning management system. This role focuses on the hands-on implementation of course content, translating faculty materials and specifications into functional, organized online courses. The Instructional Technologist ensures that all course components are properly uploaded, formatted, and structured within the LMS to create a seamless learning environment for students. A primary responsibility of this position involves working closely with faculty to execute the technical buildout of their courses. The Instructional Technologist takes course materials provided by instructors (including syllabi, assignments, readings, multimedia content, and assessments) and expertly integrates them into the LMS platform. This includes setting up course navigation, organizing content modules, configuring assignment dropboxes and gradebook settings, embedding multimedia elements, and ensuring that all technical components function correctly. The role requires strong attention to detail, proficiency with LMS features and tools, and the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty to accurately represent their course vision within the digital learning environment. Requirements

  • Technically adept - able to drive learning through technology. Experience with modern eLearning technology platforms and learning management systems, preferably Blackboard.
  • Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Acrobat DC and Techsmith Camtasia, Articulate Storyline and Captivate.
  • Experience in academic coursework development and production.
  • Excellent verbal, creative, communication, collaboration, time management and presentation skills. Attention to detail and quality standards eLearning development process.
  • Proactive problem-solver: demonstrated ability to take the initiative with projects as they are known and has the ability to work independently.
  • High-level organization skills and the ability to learn, adjust, and respond in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Experience work effectively with faculty, students, and staff members in a higher education setting.
  • A desire to continuously learn and explore emerging eLearning techniques and technologies.
  • Associate’s degree or professional certificate in an appropriate discipline such as Multimedia Development, eLearning, Instructional Design or Educational Technology (necessary) or a bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study (preferred). The degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Faculty, Instructional Designers, and Media Producers to help identify, develop, and implement learning solutions in support of online, hybrid, and face-to-face course development.
  • Research, acquire, and evaluate educational technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Design and implement training programs to help faculty adopt new technologies and teaching practices.
  • Facilitate course delivery through course building activities: applying standard templates, organizing and updating content, building out assessments, and tools.
  • Provide LMS support to faculty and students through the development and delivery of documentation, user guides, and consultations.
  • Track project timelines and activities, updating course status with team and faculty.
  • Guide faculty through course stages to ensure timely and successful completion within the LMS.
  • Serve as a liaison between VU teaching resources, VUSN Faculty, and other pertinent VU/VUSN department committees.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
