About The Position

Full-time position available on or after May 4, 2026 for the Library. This position’s responsibilities are carried out under supervision. The incumbent is responsible for providing comprehensive instructional support services to faculty, students, and academic programs within an assigned discipline or instructional area. The position supports instructional and laboratory activities through the coordination of materials, supplies, and specialized equipment, and applies in-depth knowledge of the discipline to ensure effective instructional delivery. Work requires independent judgment in evaluating materials, operating and maintaining equipment, and coordinating instructional support functions. The Fab Lab is a digital fabrication lab equipped with the latest tools, machines, and software and technology available to the entire Stan State community. It is open to all Stan State students, staff, and faculty members to create, learn, mentor, and invent. The Fab Lab has trained staff to help bring your ideas to life. The space is designed for a hands-on approach to cross-disciplinary studies and community building through a combination of analog and digital processes whether for personal enrichment, research, teaching, and collaborations.

Requirements

  • Education & Experience: Equivalent to two years of experience providing instructional support services for a unit or discipline, acting as a student assistant, or in producing materials or supplies related to the discipline.
  • OR Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • OR Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a related discipline may be substituted for the experience.
  • Knowledge of principles of providing support services.
  • Knowledge of the common principles, methods, and techniques related to the discipline.
  • Knowledge of the materials, supplies and equipment and their uses related to the discipline.
  • Ability to evaluate the materials and supplies used.
  • Ability to learn to adjust and make minor repairs on scientific equipment.
  • Ability to operate scientific or highly technical equipment and to interpret results.
  • Ability to plan activities and prepare schedules.
  • Ability to use methods, techniques and skills related to the discipline in preparing specialized materials.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of related experience in a makerspace, fabrication lab, instructional lab, academic library, or similar learning environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, a STEM discipline, art, or a closely related field.
  • Prior experience in a CSU or higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience operating and performing routine maintenance on fabrication or technical equipment (e.g., 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, woodworking tools, electronics, robotics).
  • Experience supporting or coordinating multiple concurrent instructional projects, equipment, or shared instructional spaces.
  • Experience applying and supporting established safety procedures and user training in a makerspace or laboratory setting.
  • Experience assisting in the development of instructional guides, tutorials, or hands-on training sessions for users of varying skill levels.
  • Experience coordinating and providing functional guidance to student assistants in support of instructional activities.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and perform routine maintenance on technical and scientific equipment.
  • Apply discipline knowledge to evaluate suitability and use of materials and equipment.
  • Assist faculty and students in the effective utilization of equipment and resources.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repair services as needed.
  • Support development of instructional activities through technical resource guidance.
  • Act as a resource to faculty regarding materials and equipment utilization.
  • Assist in independent use of equipment by faculty and students.
  • Plan and coordinate acquisition, storage, and dispensing of materials and supplies.
  • Develop and implement procedures for effective use and control of instructional resources.
  • Evaluate and recommend materials substitutions when necessary.
  • Seek sources of specialized or hard-to-find materials and equipment.
  • Solve acquisition or shipping problems related to instructional resources.
  • Maintain records related to materials, equipment, and operational support.
  • Coordinate logistical support to meet diverse instructional needs.
  • Support operation of instructional laboratories or centers serving multiple courses.
  • Assist in planning and organizing instructional support activities.
  • Monitor compliance with safety procedures and proper equipment use.
  • Coordinate support activities involving faculty, students, and other staff.
  • Exercise independent judgment in evaluating materials, equipment, and instructional support needs.
  • May be required to obtain additional training and/or certification as part of professional development, based on department and/or campus needs, to stay current with industry standards.
  • At the direction of appropriate administrator, may provide support to other areas as needed.
