About The Position

The student assistant position will focus on administrative support, instructional support, mentor, or specialized support while offering educational and career growth. This role provides essential clerical and administrative support to a college department, ensuring the efficient operation of daily office functions. It offers students the opportunity to develop professional office skills in a supportive campus environment.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate student awarded federal work study funds in financial aid package.
  • Must meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards set by Dallas College.
  • Must be enrolled and certified in at least six hours (half time) for Fall, Spring and Summer semesters.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
  • Must not have any prior institutional balance or blocks.
  • Student must have transportation to off-campus worksites.
  • Completes required Dallas College professional development training hours.

  • Currently enrolled as a student in good standing at the College and eligible for Federal Work-Study.

  • Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with common office software.

Responsibilities

  • Provides excellent customer service to all students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.
  • Provides team support to colleagues, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule.
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions.
  • Performs additional duties/responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Answer phones, greet visitors, and provide general information or direct inquiries appropriately.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing mail and small package deliveries.
  • Perform data entry, maintain records, and update databases accurately.
  • Assist with filing, scanning, and organizing documents.
  • Schedule appointments, meetings, and manage calendars as needed.
  • Prepare and proofread correspondence, reports, presentations, and other documents.
  • Assist with office supply inventory and ordering.
  • Provide support for departmental events, workshops, or special projects.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Provides direct support in academic labs and classrooms.
  • Addresses discipline-specific questions from students.
  • Completes required Tutoring Certification after hire.
  • Offers technical assistance on institution-specific learning platforms.
  • Completes campus/department-specific projects.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all records.
  • Manages small-scale research assignments or technical tasks.
  • Responsible for operating certain specialized technical equipment.
