Duties Instructional Leadership Models and supports in coordinating instructional methods and pedagogy. Acts as a mentor when appropriate to assist teachers in improving and expanding their repertoire of instructional activities. Supports teachers in developing measurable individual and departmental goals that align with the outcomes of school-wide goals for student achievement. Encourages teamwork and engages in collaborative problem-solving. Provides leadership opportunities to licensed staff in the department. Aids in developing assessment systems that monitor student learning and analyze data to ensure that the building's goals and standards are met. Provides leadership within the department and collaborates with the building administration in initiating changes necessary to improve student learning based on data analysis and best practices. Sets high expectations of staff and students to support student engagement with the content area. In collaboration with the counterpart, facilitates continual review and evaluation of curriculum and leads the recommendation of new courses, textbook renewal, and or summer curriculum projects, among other recommendations to remain current and relevant. Provides leadership for department committees. Works collaboratively with other instructional supervisors in developing and coordinating interdisciplinary programs when appropriate. Actively participates in Instructional Supervisor Council and Teaching and Learning Team meetings and other meetings as appropriate. Makes staffing recommendations to the Principal and Executive Director of Human Resources on hiring, retention, and release of staff. Welcomes and assists substitute teachers in their day-to-day work. Effectively utilizes the evaluation appraisal system to improve teaching and learning, in collaboration with counterparts for traveling teachers. Evaluates and supervises support staff assigned to the department. Provides support for and coaches teachers on student issues, including but not limited to disciplinary problems, academic concerns, accommodations, and parent communication. Makes decisions on student schedule changes and class overloads in consultation with the building administration. Confers with students, teachers, counselors, deans, and parents regarding teacher and student issues. Collaborates with the Student Services department regarding course information, requests, and placement. Oversees teacher development of semester assessments for all courses. Responsible for implementing and coordinating department initiatives. Assists APs with master scheduling by making recommendations for teaching assignments and classroom utilization. Teaches content area courses, which include planning and preparation. Provides professional development for all certified in the department. Assist the administrator of summer school as needed. Operational Leadership Develops and attends to departmental-specific supervisory tasks, management functions, and duties. Responsible for supervisory functions of all department-related events. Follows School Board policy, school procedures, and guidelines regarding the daily operation of the school. Schedules department courses and assigns teachers to classes. Aligns courses with department initiatives. Prepares, manages, and monitors the department's budget. Supervises departmental treasury accounts and maintains the department's inventory pertaining to equipment and supplies. Maintains fluid communication to facilitate conversations and follow through. Career and Technical Education Leadership Manages budgets for building departments, as well as Perkins and CTEI grants, and approves and tracks orders to ensure quality and cost-efficient spending. Completes quarterly spending reports for grants and bi-annual Perkins V program data reviews, including local needs assessments and supporting documents for secondary school districts. Oversees and maintains labs and shops, ensuring safety inspections, annual machinery maintenance, and timely repairs in collaboration with the technology and maintenance teams. Support for teachers and students in the Oakton dual credit application and registration process (i.e. application, registration, support) at the building level with support from the IS of Academy and Advanced Programs. Attends quarterly SCRIMP safety meetings, including an annual walkthrough of all labs, and follows up on any recommendations. Oversees the preschool program including the evaluation of the staff and the program. Leads course promotion in creating awareness for incoming and current students, including outreach to underrepresented students in our programs. Works collaboratively with other instructional supervisors in developing and coordinating interdisciplinary programs when appropriate. Plans and coordinates large-scale events for Career and Technical Education (CTE). Maintains safety of laboratories through overseeing classroom safety checks, proper chemical storage, and annual safety training. Promotes the use of data-driven decision-making in various contexts, including curriculum design, assessment, and evaluation. Is active in appropriate professional organizations and encourages participation by department staff. Perform special projects and assignments at the direction of the Building Principal and/or direct supervisor.
