About The Position

The Instructional Student Assistant (ISA) position in the Department of Geography, Environment and Spatial Analysis is a temporary role for the academic year 2025/2026. Under supervision, ISAs perform teaching, grading, and tutoring duties primarily within the academic department. The work may take place on-campus or at off-campus locations under agreements with the CSU system. Students must be admitted or registered as a CSU student and cannot hold concurrent faculty or staff positions. The maximum work hours are capped at 20 hours per week during the academic year, with the possibility of full-time work during academic breaks.

Requirements

  • Must be admitted or registered as a Humboldt student.
  • Completion of the course for which they are applying (or equivalent) with a grade of A- or higher.
  • An overall GPA of at least 3.3 for all coursework completed at Cal Poly Humboldt.
  • Knowledge of relevant technologies and software programs, as well as discipline-specific terminology.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong foundation in geographic principles.

Responsibilities

  • Grade materials and review student submissions for GSP 101 or GEOG 106 as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Conduct occasional tutoring sessions during the semester.
  • Receive ongoing weekly supervision.
