About The Position

The Instructional Student Assistant (ISA) position in the Department of Environmental Studies at Cal Poly Humboldt is a temporary role for the academic year 2025/2026. Under supervision, ISAs perform teaching, grading, and/or tutoring duties for the majority of their work hours. The work may be conducted on-campus or at an off-campus public agency or private non-profit organization under an agreement with a campus in the CSU system. Students applying for ISA positions must be admitted or registered as a CSU student. Academic Student Employees may not concurrently hold a faculty or staff position. Students with assignments in more than one student classification are restricted to working a maximum of 20 hours per week during the academic year and up to full-time during academic break periods. The position allows for up to 7 hours of work per week at a pay rate of $17.86/hour.

Requirements

  • Must be admitted or registered as a Humboldt student.
  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students.

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience in the field of Appropriate Technology.
  • Previously taken and passed an ENST 123 course.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead a 10-week course on an aspect of Appropriate Technology, supervised by an experienced faculty member.
  • Coordinate a 1 unit C/NC Environmental Studies course (ENST 123) on a selected topic or propose a new course topic.
  • Work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students.
  • Accept responsibility for assigned work.
