About The Position

The Peer Learning Facilitator (PLF) role is designed to support student learning and academic development through various responsibilities that include attending training sessions, collaborating with course instructors, and facilitating active learning sessions. PLFs are expected to engage with students, provide feedback to instructors, and contribute to the overall academic success of the course.

Requirements

  • Availability for both the content area course and the SI section assigned, in addition to office hours.

Responsibilities

  • Attend PLF Leader Trainings including new leader orientation and professional development forums.
  • Attend the Content Course and introduce yourself to the course instructor before the term begins.
  • Submit Weekly Academic Support Review detailing each week's active learning support.
  • Meet regularly with the course instructor, Peer Learning Programs Coordinator, and academic support colleagues.
  • Prepare written session plans for each SI session with learning objectives and collaborative techniques.
  • Conduct SI sessions, facilitating meetings to meet participant needs and integrating content with learning strategies.
  • Conduct Peer Observations by attending sessions led by other SI Leaders and completing observation forms.
  • Collect Data for Program Evaluation including attendance data and mid/end-of-term surveys.
  • Work with the course instructor to facilitate active learning exercises during designated lecture time.
  • Support student learning by providing guidance in one-on-one or small group settings.
  • Modify instructional methods to meet diverse student needs when necessary.
  • Identify and refer students to appropriate support services.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and provide clear expectations regarding roles.
