Responsibilities

  • Train and furnish work direction to Fire Technology and Fire Academy instructional assistants.
  • Assist in the preparation and tracking of the Fire Technology and Fire Academy instructional assistant's budget.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Fire Technology and Fire Academy budget, monitor budget expenditures for instructional supplies, instructional equipment maintenance, instructional equipment purchases, instructional equipment servicing, and teaching assistants.
  • Assist instructors, students, and staff in the use of a variety of equipment, materials, and supplies required for firefighter training and certification.
  • Prepare and issue firefighting equipment to students, instructors, and staff.
  • Maintain records of materials and equipment loaned to students and receive returned equipment.
  • Research and obtain quotes to order instructional supplies and equipment used in firefighting training.
  • Order, track, receive, and catalog equipment used in firefighting training.
  • Prepare firefighting training equipment for instructor demonstrations and student learning stations as requested.
  • Construct and build wood fire service training props using a variety of tools.
  • Test, adjust, and maintain apparatus and equipment, provide basic services for proper daily operation.
  • Develop and maintain simulations for the Command Training Center (CTC), troubleshoot and resolve problems related to computer software.
  • Provide opportunities for student review and practice skills outside of designated Fire Technology courses.
  • Develop and maintain filing systems for all student certifications.
  • Provide student outreach and recruitment for the FIPT Program.
  • Maintain and repair fire academy props; order supplies to repair as necessary.
  • Coordinate with vendors to maintain and service college air compressors.
  • Assure classrooms, equipment, and facilities are prepared for proper use and function.
  • Organize and coordinate specialized fire equipment for training at remote locations.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment on a routine basis.
  • Issue and ensure the return of academy equipment and apparatus.
  • Perform maintenance and repair to ensure the safe and working order of equipment.
  • Prepare a variety of records, files, and reports regarding equipment use and maintenance.
  • Attend meetings, seminars, and training sessions appropriate to keep abreast of new fire service equipment and technology.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of six months of work experience in Fire Technology or Fire Service Training.
  • Graduation from a CA State Accredited Firefighter 1 Academy or possession of a Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 Certification is highly desirable.
  • An associate degree or certificate in Fire Technology or a closely related field or equivalent coursework.
  • Provided evidence or examples of computer-related experience including Google, Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, and Fire Simulation software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge and/or experience in training and furnishing work direction to Fire Technology and Fire Academy instructional assistants.
  • Experience in preparing and tracking budgets for instructional assistants.
  • Experience in maintaining records of materials and equipment loaned to students.
