About The Position

Purpose: McCombs School of Business is looking for a collaborative , enthusiastic , and professional student employee to provide support for the McCombs Office of Instructional Innovation . The McCombs Office of Instructional Innovation (MOII) promotes efficient, innovative, and evidence-based teaching that enhances student learning. We support faculty and programs through initiatives that improve course quality, accessibility, and the effective use of educational technologies. MOII projects often have McCombs-wide and sometimes campus-wide impact, with a focus on continuous improvement and fostering a strong teaching community. The Instructional Innovation Student Assistant will assist with teaching and learning initiatives within the McCombs Office of Instructional Innovation. This role focuses on improving course quality, accessibility, and faculty resources through tasks such as quality assurance reviews, Canvas updates, event logistics, and documentation. Work will be scoped and supervised, with training provided, and responsibilities will vary based on office priorities and timelines. Requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be a University of Texas at Austin student, enrolled for at least 6 credit hours.
  • Current undergraduate with a minimum of 45 hours of course work completed or graduate student at UT Austin.
  • Interest in teaching and learning, educational technology, instructional design, or higher education operations.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Work-Study and non-Work Study students are welcome to apply.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Canvas or other learning management systems.
  • Experience reviewing or creating digital content (e.g., courses, websites, videos, documents).
  • Interest in accessibility, usability, or learning experience design.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft 365 and willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Experience working on collaborative projects in an academic or professional setting.

Responsibilities

  • Quality Assurance & Instructional Material Updates: Reviewing instructional materials and Canvas courses using existing checklists.
  • Providing feedback from a student perspective to improve usability and learning experience.
  • Perform scoped tasks in Canvas (link checks, module sequencing, student view testing).
  • Event Support: Helping prepare materials and provide logistical support for faculty-facing events and meetings.
  • Creating promotional materials for events.
  • Accessibility : Cleaning captions, updating transcript templates, and formatting for clarity and compliance.
  • Reviewing instructional videos for accessibility and consistency.
  • Documentation & Templates : Testing instructional tools or workflows and sharing usability feedback Organizing and auditing existing process documentation, templates, and tutorials.
  • Draft new guides as needed.
