The instructional coach of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) increases academic growth and achievement and social-emotional-behavioral outcomes for students by building staff capacity. The focus of this role may vary from academic, behavior, or a combination based on school needs. Instructional coaches use job-embedded professional development and coaching to implement effective schoolwide instructional practices in the areas of academics and/or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). This position makes use of research-based effective instructional and positive behavior support strategies to support the implementation of Anchorage School District adopted curriculum and resources. This position may have a flexible work calendar, with work days during summer, winter, or spring breaks. In exchange, equivalent time off during the regular school year will be mutually agreed upon by the employee and supervisor. Instructional coaches collaborate with principals, school staff, teacher experts, and relevant district-based departments to build effective practices and systems at the school level that result in successful student outcomes. Instructional coaches facilitate and support collaboration, shared learning, professional development, and effective implementation of district-adopted initiatives. This role supplements district-based guidance and support.
