About the position

The Instructional Assistant position at Elmwood Village Charter School is designed for individuals aspiring to become certified teachers. This role involves working closely with a General Education Teacher to support a classroom of students, fostering a culture of learning and academic achievement. The Instructional Assistant will engage with students, deliver planned instruction, and assist in various classroom activities, ensuring a safe and stimulating learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to teachers and staff members by fostering a culture of academic rigor and achievement.
• Work with teachers to address individual learning needs of students.
• Plan and provide the Social Emotional Curriculum to the classroom.
• Deliver instruction planned by the general education teacher, including providing small group instruction.
• Keep students on task by engaging them in the lesson.
• Complete documentation for RTI under the supervision of the general education teacher.
• Provide Academic Intervention Support (AIS) under the direction of the general education teacher.
• Assist in classroom set-up and logistics, including prepping student materials and classroom maintenance.
• Provide lunch supervision and support in student behavioral management.
• Ensure the safety of students at all times and supervise students in and out of the classroom as needed.
• Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning by following the Responsive Classroom and Cooperative Discipline models.

Requirements

• Valid Teaching Certification license (preferred).
• Bachelor's degree (preferred).
• Experience working with students, preferably in a classroom setting.
• Excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

• New York State Elementary Teaching Certificate or NYS Certification as an Instructional Assistant.
