About The Position

Purpose and Scope: Working with the classroom teacher, the instructional assistant will assist the classroom teacher in the supervision and instruction of students. The instructional assistant is responsible to help provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.

Requirements

  • Assumes responsibility and takes initiative to assist the classroom teacher.
  • Assists in supervision and care of students.
  • Assists the teacher in maintaining a safe physical environment.
  • Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, and outdoor play.
  • Assists in classroom set up, clean up, and materials preparation
  • Assists in arrangement, maintenance, cleanliness, and security of the classroom.
  • Establishes a good rapport with children.
  • Assist the teacher to work with individuals and groups of students – including working with progress monitoring data and data reports used to drive group instruction.
  • Actively engages children in meaningful learning activities and experiences.
  • Helping children to establish good habits of personal hygiene.
  • Assist with the implementation of health, emergency procedures, and first aid.
  • Immediately reports accidents to teacher: Prepares a written report stating date, time, nature of accident, and action taken.
  • Attends meetings and in-services as required by Principal.
  • Communicates appropriately with parents and staff and refers all parent questions and concerns pertaining to students to the teacher.
  • Treats confidential information about students, staff, and school affairs in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative, supportive, and effective relationships with all members of the school community.
  • Assumes the duties of the teacher in the absence of the teacher.
  • Is punctual and on time for work.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned and demonstrates ability to be flexible.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and live the Gospel message, while inviting teachers, parents, and students to live out their lives embracing their Catholic faith and their relationship with Christ.
  • Foster students’ understanding of God’s role in their lives and Christ’s relationship to each student.
  • Inculcate the living out of Gospel values and commitment to care for others through charity and justice.
  • Assist in providing opportunities for daily prayer, liturgy, frequent prayer services, retreats and other religious education activities throughout the year for students, parents, and staff.
