About The Position

Under general supervision, to assist a certificated teacher in the supervision and instruction of students; to perform a variety of supportive and clerical tasks; and to do other related work as required.

Requirements

Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Some experience working with children in an educational or child care setting is desirable.
Knowledge of: Basic subjects taught in District schools, including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language, and reading; general needs and behavior of children; routine clerical procedures and record keeping.
Ability to: Monitor, observe, and report student behavior according to approved policies and procedures; assist with instructional activities; perform routine clerical work; maintain routine records; understand and carry out oral and written directions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Responsibilities

Assists students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments (e.g., spelling, grammar, mathematics, reading), reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.
Assists teacher with a variety of clerical duties, such as preparing instructional materials, setting up work areas, maintaining attendance records, checking and recording student progress, and distributing and collecting papers.
Assists in maintaining student discipline; supervises students in the classroom, lunchroom, playground, and on field trips.
Reads to students and listens to students read.
Assists students with special needs.
Grades student tests and assignments; records scores.
Confers with teacher concerning programs and materials to meet student needs.
Operates a variety of office and instructional equipment, such as computers, copiers, and audio-visual equipment.
May provide translation assistance to students and parents.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
