About The Position

The Instructional Assistant for Special Education (SpEd Resource) plays a crucial role in supporting the special education teacher in addressing the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities. This position involves assisting in the implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instructional programs, under the general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of a certified teacher.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to work well with children with disabilities.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Knowledge of general office equipment.
• Some experience working with children.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
• Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
• Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
• Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
• Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
• Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
• Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
