About The Position

The Instructional Assistant for Special Education (SPED) is a support staff position at the Carlsbad Enrichment Center at Eddy. The role involves assisting licensed school staff in a Title I targeted assistance program or a Title I school-wide program. The primary responsibility of the Instructional Assistant is to work alongside or under the direct supervision of duly licensed staff, although there may be brief periods when they are alone with students. Applicants must be able to pass a background check and obtain a New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) Instructional Assistant License for Title I.

Requirements

  • Must hold a high school diploma or equivalency.
  • Must be at least eighteen years of age.
  • Must provide certification of completion of an orientation session pertinent to the assignment.
  • If holding a level 2 EA license, must provide certification demonstrating the PED's educational assistant competencies.
  • Must meet one of the following: earn an associate degree with specific coursework, complete forty-eight semester hours of academic credit, or obtain a passing score on a relevant test.
