About The Position

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of the Texas A&M University System, welcomes applicants for an Instructional Assistant Professor of English to begin Fall 2026. TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution with over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. This is a non tenure-track Instructional Assistant Professor (9-month faculty position; 3-year appointment with the possibility of renewal based on annual evaluations and performance). Primary duties will include teaching 15 semester credit hours (the equivalent of five courses) per semester of freshmen composition courses and advanced courses in literature. Duties also include serving on the First Year Writing Program faculty committee as well as other department, college and university committees, and providing service to students; actively participating in department, college, and university initiatives. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace. The Department of Humanities offers BA and MA degrees in English, History, and Spanish, as well as eight minors.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate must hold a an earned doctorate degree in English. ABDs will also be considered, but applicants must have earned a doctorate before appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • We strongly encourage candidates with prior teaching experience in composition.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience service experience in First Year Writing Programs, and/or research or teaching experience in literature or the history of the English language.
