About The Position

The Instructional Assistant (Paraprofessional) Substitute works for 5.75 hours per day at an hourly rate of $14.00. Educational assistants assist the teacher and/or other professionals in the provision of special education and related services to pupils with disabilities. They may assist a teacher in the supervision of pupils, in assisting with instructional tasks, and in the performance of duties that do not require a teaching certificate or license. The individual in this assignment must discharge all delegated responsibilities in a manner consistent with federal law, state law, and the policies adopted by the Woodridge Board of Education.

Requirements

  • Educational Aide Permit or Paraprofessional License.
  • High School Diploma with postsecondary training/education in working with and educating individuals with disabilities preferred.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students with diverse backgrounds and needs.
  • Ability to efficiently operate standard office equipment.
  • Good health, high moral character, and a good attendance record.
  • Ability to lift at least 60 lbs.
  • Willingness to attend any provided training designed to qualify a person to perform effectively their assigned duties.
  • Must pass the required Educational Assistant Examination.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the provision of special education and related services for pupils with disabilities as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist with instructional tasks.
  • Assist the teacher in the completion of classroom activities.
  • Implement practices and services designated by related services personnel for special education services.
  • Assist pupils with disabilities with transition times as delineated on the pupil's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  • Assist the teacher in the supervision of pupils with disabilities.
  • Assist pupils with disabilities with health care and personal hygiene needs.
  • Assist pupils with disabilities in and out of wheelchairs and with other forms of assistive technology.
  • Participate with teacher(s) in parent conferences and in conferences with other staff regarding the pupil's welfare.
