About The Position

The Instructional Assistant provides a Kindergarten classroom teacher with support and assistance in implementing an instructional program/curriculum that incorporates strategies and methods that address a wide range of learning styles, individual needs, interests, abilities, and maturity levels of students. The Instructional Assistant also supports the classroom teacher with providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment that is safe/multicultural/gender/ability-fair and in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.

  • High School diploma/GED

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with all students, staff, and parents

  • Experience with MS Office

Responsibilities

  • Assists the classroom teacher in establishing and maintaining classroom management procedures to clearly communicate expectations to ensure an effective learning environment.
  • Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher and facilitates an appropriate attitude of independence in all children.
  • Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  • Assists with large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling, and assists students individually as needed.
  • Organizes and leads activities, at the direction of the teacher, designed to promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, and storytelling.
