About The Position

A vacancy currently exists for an Instructional Assistant II at Pottsgrove High School. JOB SUMMARY: Provide instructional support to teachers, ensuring students become proficient in all endeavors.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required
  • Submission of required clearances
  • Must be “Highly Qualified” per the requirements of the Pennsylvania Department of Education. (Pottsgrove will assist hired employees with this requirement.)

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree preferred
  • Two (2) years experience with children/students preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with classroom assignments, tests, and activities, ensuring that students understand all assignments given by the teacher, especially those who take longer to understand materials.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a positive classroom environment to encourage positive behavior from students.
  • Assist students during morning and or afternoon duties;supervise students during assemblies.
  • Tutor individuals or small groups of children utilizing materials and approaches as designed by the classroom teacher.
  • Assist teacher with planning and evaluating functions as designed by the teacher.
  • Assist in diagnosing learning difficulties and report learning problems to the teacher.
  • Implement behavior support plan and monitor student progress to ensure students are following discipline polices and procedures as directed by the supervising teacher.
  • Document and report relevant information regarding student progress, behavioral changes, or physical needs to the teacher as required.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, workshops and in-service programs.
  • Assist in preparation of materials needed for instruction,including but not limited to flash cards, filmstrips, learning centers and games.
  • Prepare materials for extra study and review.
  • Perform clerical duties, including but not limited to copying,filing, computer input and bulletin boards.
  • Assist children with self-help activities such as feeding, toileting and dressing as needed.
  • Collaborate and provide support for students in regular education classrooms.
  • Provide supervision and continue classroom activities in the brief absence of the teacher.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and the Learning Support Teacher.
  • Escort students from the cafeteria to the playground for recess;supervise students while on the playground, ensuring their safety.
  • Distribute lunch tickets to students as needed; escort students to the cafeteria and supervise students in the cafeteria during lunch period.
  • Escort students from the cafeteria to their encore classes and from classes to the playground.
  • Monitor students as assigned.
