About The Position

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 48 hours of college preferred or Para-Educator Training Certificate.
  • Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate required.
  • Two years' experience working with children/adults with disabilities.
  • Ability to work well with children with disabilities.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR Training preferred.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training preferred.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Align major functions of the assignment with district goals to ensure student success.
  • Familiarize with Bryan ISD's general policies and enforce school rules and regulations.
  • Perform tasks under the guidance of a certified teacher or teaching team.
  • Provide instructional support for classes taught by special/general education teachers.
  • Assist students with physical or behavioral disabilities according to their individualized needs.
  • Help with physical care including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
  • Manage student behavior and intervene in crises as needed.
  • Adapt to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
  • Work with individual students or small groups on instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
  • Supervise and monitor students throughout the school day in various settings.
  • Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Assist in preparing instructional materials and maintaining classroom displays.
  • Help maintain administrative records and prepare reports such as grades and attendance.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom and assist in inventory and care of equipment.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Participate in staff development training programs and faculty meetings.
  • Monitor students working with individualized programmed material and educational games.
  • Prepare a weekly schedule with the assistance of the teacher.
  • Assist with clerical duties such as grading tests and maintaining student charts.
