About The Position

The University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN), Office of Undergraduate Studies is seeking a temporary Instructional Aide to facilitate immersive simulation and skills lab experiences and explore innovative opportunities to enhance student learning within the undergraduate nursing program. This position may work a hybrid schedule of four (4) onsite days and one (1) remote day per week. (Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm)

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing is required.
  • A current nursing license in the State of Michigan is required for this position.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and operate most equipment found in a healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Domonstrated basic knowledge of the features and capabailities of basic multimedia equipment, including video equipment.
  • Some prior experience in computer use, set-up, troubleshooting, and maintenance required. Proficiency with databases, digital audio-visual editing, ability to learn new technologies quickly and easily. Experience with setting up audiovisual equipment preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience at the intermediate level in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook), Win2000, XP, Windows 10, Mac OS, and other types of databases.
  • Candidate must have excellent communication skills, with the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely for various mediums.
  • Strong relationship-building skills are essential, including a positive communication style and the ability to work collaboratively with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience with high-fidelity simulation equipment or experience in the clinical healthcare setting; an associate degree or various relevant coursework, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable skills can be attained is preferred.
  • Experience with setting up audiovisual equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the delivery and continuous improvement of competency and skill development activities for undergraduate nursing students.
  • Collaborate in coordinating term competency checks and participate in the planning of future competency-based evaluations.
  • Provide assistance to students in need of remediation and ensure appropriate arrangements for those who missed lab/clinical experiences.
  • Facilitate immersive simulation experiences for medical-surgical and specialty area courses in close collaboration with nursing faculty.
  • Implement targeted programming for students facing progression challenges, including remediation experiences and facilitating re-entry into the program.
  • Accept short-term projects to address urgent needs within the undergraduate program.
