About The Position

Requirements

  • Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)
  • Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy
  • Possess general knowledge of needs and behavior of children
  • Be able to work cooperatively with the assigned teacher and other staff members
  • Must be organized, and have the ability to be attentive to detail
  • Must be able to use the classroom management system and techniques that are established for the classroom
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor
  • Competency and skills involving interpersonal/group dynamics
  • Be able to follow and implement rules and regulations per school handbook
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Clear criminal background check (a clear Livescan for the Diocese of San Diego is a condition of employment)
  • Experience working with children within education, child development or related field (preferred)
  • Professional appearance and manner
  • Positive professional references and recommendations

Responsibilities

  • Prepare work as directed by the teacher
  • File student papers
  • Escort and supervise students
  • Supervise students' playtime
  • Facilitate students in the library checking out books and returning books
  • Assist with field trip arrangements
  • Work with small groups for tutorial or enrichment purposes
  • Substitute for the teacher when needed- short term
  • Assist with daily classroom routine
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Return voice-mail/e-mail messages in a timely manner
  • Communicate regularly with parents
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work space
  • Verify student absences and assist with maintaining daily attendance and safety logs.
  • Demonstrate a respectful demeanor with staff, students, and parents
  • Observe utmost confidentiality regarding parent, student, and staff information/conversations
  • Supervise playground and other areas of duty as the role may require
