About The Position

MyPath and its Operating Companies provide specialized services and dignified care for children, adolescents and adults with special needs. Our companies provide a spectrum of services and support which promote the ability of those we serve to live as independently as possible in the community. A staff member to provide student assistance during school hours at T.C. Harris School. The staff member will be expected to provide direct care services, similar to those provided by Direct Support Staff, assists in educational activities and provide written documentation as needed.

Requirements

  • Requires demonstrated ability in the following areas: organizational skills, delegation of appropriate duties, accuracy and attention to detail in paperwork and other documentation, a strong work ethic and consistent attendance.
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Scheduling will be Monday through Friday during school hours, with occasional attendance after school hours for events.
  • Must be 21 years of age.

Nice To Haves

  • Paraprofessional training preferred.
  • 60 college credit hours preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Implements appropriate individualized education for students as prescribed by the Teacher
  • Understands and implements students Individual Education Program (IEP).
  • Implements daily lesson plans for students
  • Documents students’ academic, behavioral & social progress
  • Helps plan and coordinate field trips for the students with the teacher
  • Implements students’ BIP in the classroom
  • Ability to move and work in any classroom when assigned depending on the needs of the school day.
  • Ability to work on all units when assigned
  • Works with Clinicians assigned to students in classroom
  • Attends Team meetings
  • Attends IEP or TTR meetings when assigned
  • Refrains from cell phone use when in active supervision
  • Assist with planning and implementing daily lessons with teacher guidance.
  • Responsible for entering classroom behavior data into the data base.
  • Reviews and becomes familiar with all education history material on each incoming student assigned to him/her.
  • Helps update Progress on IEP (i.e., goals met, percent, trials, etc.).
  • Keeps record of progress in the grade book at the discretion of the teacher.
  • Assist with virtual learning when needed.
  • Provides appropriate individualized education within T.C Harris structured treatment plan, at the direction of the teacher.
  • Assumes the Role of the teacher in the absence of the classroom teacher and follows outlined lesson plans.
  • Ensures that classroom environment and activities are conducive to student development of independence, competence, and sense of self-worth.
  • Helps develop and implement overall classroom Behavior Intervention Plan.
  • Follows guidelines for Classroom Behavior Management (i.e., Hallway, personals).
  • Develops and implements individual Behavior Intervention Plans when necessary.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with behavior management and behavior education techniques used at T.C. Harris School.
  • Implements Trial Behavioral Plans or Behavioral Intervention Plans.
  • Works with student field placement per assignment by the Education Director or teacher.
  • Meets with Clinician as needed to discuss implementing Individual Treatment Plans within the classroom setting and/or program changes to meet students' needs.
  • Follows Clinician recommendations made at staffing by implementing techniques, plans, or strategies suggested and provides Clinician with feedback regarding effectiveness.
  • Follows maintenance guidelines for care of classroom.
  • Submits repair notices, breakage, and/or damage reports to the Education Coordinator or Maintenance Supervisor as needed.
  • Reports any needs to the Education Coordinator prior to submitting a maintenance request notice.
  • Ensures that classroom is orderly, and door locked at the end of the school day.
  • Reports to Infirmary any symptoms of ill health in a student.
  • Complies with health care recommendations for student (i.e., use of sunscreen, glasses, toileting schedules).
  • Cooperates with Clinicians in scheduling therapy for students in class.
  • Implements recommendations made at individual Staffing regarding specific student needs or deficits (i.e., tactile stimulation, relaxation, modified materials).
  • Plans, implements, and team teach with Clinicians.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in meeting changing student needs, including new enrollments and schedule interruptions per Education Director's direction.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current treatment goals for all students.
  • Completes paperwork accurately and submits in a timely fashion per responsibility.
  • Eats lunch in dining room with students as scheduled, encouraging appropriate social skills and to assist in behavior management.
  • Implements behavioral and/or activity recommendations made at individual Staffing.
  • Works on units providing coverage when assigned.
  • Attends IEP meetings when assigned.
  • Attends professional conferences each year per request.
  • Views all new orientation video tapes.
  • Reviews professional journals and articles.
  • Participates in in-service programs as requested by the Education Director
  • Performs other duties as delegated by the Education Director or Education Coordinator that may not be specifically provided for in this description, but which reasonably fall under the auspices of this position.
