About The Position
The Instructional Aide/Paraprofessional at Summit Academy Secondary School plays a crucial role in supporting the educational process for students, particularly those with special needs. This position involves working closely with the classroom teacher and Intervention Specialist to ensure that all students receive the necessary support to thrive in their learning environment. The Instructional Aide is responsible for co-teaching and assisting in the implementation of instructional activities, which includes tutoring small groups of students and actively participating in classroom instruction. The Aide will also monitor student behavior and assist in maintaining a positive classroom management plan, ensuring that the learning environment is conducive to all students' success. In addition to instructional support, the Aide will supervise students during various transitions throughout the school day, including lunch, recess, and dismissal. This role requires the ability to de-escalate negative behaviors and provide appropriate interventions tailored to individual student needs. The Aide will maintain observation records and track student behavior, providing accurate and timely information to the teacher and administration. Confidentiality is paramount, as the Aide will handle sensitive student information and must comply with all privacy regulations. The position also involves participation in professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge in educational practices. The Aide will be expected to communicate effectively with teachers and staff regarding student concerns and progress, and to suggest accommodations that may better meet students' needs.
