About The Position

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) Administrator at RAND Corporation is responsible for ensuring compliance with ethical, regulatory, legal, and institutional guidelines regarding the use of human subjects in research. This full-time position involves overseeing the Human Subjects Protection Committee (HSPC) reviews of research projects funded by government and private sources, facilitating the protection of human research subjects throughout the research process.

Requirements

  • Training in OHRP and Common Rule regulations.
  • Experience in HSPC IRB administration applying regulations and making determinations in social and behavioral research.
  • Experience with HURON software for IRB administration.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, including problem-solving.
  • Strong ability to organize and prioritize work, and respond well to varied work demands.
  • Excellent ability to work as part of an administrative team.
  • Ability to exercise excellent judgement and interpersonal skills.
  • Minimum: Bachelor's Degree; Preferred: Master's Degree.
  • Minimum: 3 years related experience; Preferred: 6 years or more related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Process and coordinate HSPC reviews of projects involving human research subjects from initial review to project completion.
  • Apply knowledge of ethical, regulatory, legal, and institutional guidelines to project reviews.
  • Manage IRB reliance agreements.
  • Field questions regarding human research subjects from researchers and HSPC committee members.
  • Provide educational outreach to researchers on HSPC issues and topics.
  • Research new and emerging human research subjects issues and varying interpretations as needed.
  • Participate in projects aimed at improving processes and procedures used by HSPC Committee members and administrative staff.
