About The Position

At our partner institution at University of Mary The primary duties of the IR analyst include fact-finding, analysis, and SQL report writing for the University’s business intelligence, regulatory, and ad-hoc reporting needs. Such activities require meeting with functional staff to determine report requirements, reading and understanding requirements from regulatory reporting instructions, creating technical documentation and report development. The IR analyst will take complex business data and distill it into easily understandable reports for use by functional, management and executive level users. Additionally, the IR analyst will be required to provide support in all regulatory reporting functions of the Institutional Research division of the Office of Information Technology. This position is located on-site at our partner institution, the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota. Hours of operation are Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Hours may vary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technologies or related field, or an
  • At least 1 year of experience analyzing data and developing reports in a professional environment.
  • At least 3 years of SQL experience (e.g. TSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
  • Strong technical background in relational database management, report development tools (SSRS, Power BI).
  • Advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual ability.
  • Ability to translate complex business problems into technical specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a deadline while balancing competing priorities.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. as needed to move equipment across the campus environment
  • Must be able to sit for long periods at a time, and or stand for long periods at a time

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Python and R is preferred.
  • Experience in relational database design and ERDs is preferred.
  • Experience with developing reporting structures on the SharePoint and Power platforms is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and implement management reports using reporting tools.
  • Work with heads of business units to understand business processes and outline report requirements for assigned projects.
  • Analyze users’ needs and develop Business Analytics and Business Intelligence solutions.
  • Write and run queries in multiple databases.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data issues.
  • Design ad-hoc and dynamically scheduled reports for internal and external client use.
  • Assist in research and development of new business intelligence tools and techniques for report writing.
  • Proactively generate and compile reports with recommended improvements to, or new requirements for, business processes and operational procedures.
  • Create documentation for knowledge base, user guides, and other various communications systems to support report use.
  • Keep updated on emerging technologies related to business analytics and/or business intelligence.
