About The Position

Thomson-Hood Veterans Center is a 285-bed long-term care facility that has served more than 2,782 Veterans from all branches of the armed forces since admitting the first resident on August 25, 1991. Thomson-Hood is the largest facility operated by the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs. The Thomson-Hood Veterans Center is looking for a self-motivated Energetic Institutional Recreation Leader I that has the desire to care for Kentucky’s Veterans. Expectations for this position include but are not limited to: Plans, organizes and conducts therapeutic recreation programs and activities within the recreation program for an institution. Completes quarterly reviews on each resident to monitor their recreational needs and participation. Develops treatment plans to meet residents individual needs and attends treatment team meetings. Organizes and supervises recreational outings including supervision of residents, staff and volunteers involved in outings. Completes initial assessments on new resident to assess their therapeutic recreational needs. Directs activity aides during the therapeutic recreational outings. Responsible for maintaining therapeutic recreational calendars for assigned unit. The ideal candidate will work within a team-centered environment to meet our commitment to serving Kentucky's Veterans by fostering independence, preserving dignity, and providing compassionate care. This position has an approved Locality Premium of $3.35, based on the organizational structure and work county it is currently assigned to, in compliance with 101 KAR 2:034 Section 9(1).

Requirements

  • EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, special education or a related field.
  • EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE
  • Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
  • Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in planned recreation, physical education, special education or a related field will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
