About The Position

The Institutional Director of Communications and Marketing is responsible for enhancing the image of LECOM Health and its affiliates through strategic communications and marketing efforts. This role involves planning and directing marketing initiatives to increase awareness of the academic health center, managing public relations, and overseeing the development of various media and promotional materials. The Director also coordinates fundraising activities and Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs, ensuring effective communication both internally and externally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree in communications arts, journalism, media relations, advertising, or related field.
  • 5-10 years of professional marketing, public relations, and media relations experience in higher education, health system, or business.
  • High organization and management skills.
  • Knowledge of digital photography, computer photo editing software, desktop publishing, and graphic design.
  • Proficiency in digital word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of advertising and marketing policies and trends.
  • Ability to prepare financial and statistical reports.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and fluid situations with common sense.
  • Ability to work with individuals at all levels throughout the organization.
  • Ability to maintain an established work schedule of 40 to 50 hours of onsite work.
  • Interpersonal skills including tact and diplomacy.
  • Organizational and planning skills with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated presentation, writing, and editing skills.
  • Strong computer literacy and accurate data entry skills.
  • Public relations experience to ensure an efficient department.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes and preserves the mission of LECOM.
  • Acts as departmental representative with faculty, staff, and visitors in a professional manner.
  • Maintains confidentiality and a pleasant demeanor.
  • Develops departmental goals and objectives; establishes and implements policies and procedures for departmental operation.
  • Develops and executes marketing plans and programs, both short term and long range.
  • Interviews and hires communications department staff.
  • Establishes performance goals, allocates resources, and assesses policies for department staff.
  • Supervises research, preparation, and submission of articles, news stories, and press releases to media sources.
  • Develops relationships with external media sources to promote newsworthy stories.
  • Oversees the development and design of print, broadcast, and other media marketing materials.
  • Plans, organizes, implements, and assigns all incoming projects in photography, graphic design, and online publishing.
  • Coordinates administrative details for institutional functions, conferences, and banquets.
  • Participates in planning and operation of college fundraising activities.
  • Implements fundraising campaigns through various methods.
  • Ensures receipt, acknowledgement, and allocation of gifts according to IRS requirements.
  • Develops and designs branding for LECOM Health and its affiliates.
  • Develops goals and objectives for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and coordinates CME programs.
  • Attends college activities and events as a representative of the Department.
  • Requires working extended hours and weekends, as well as travel outside the Erie area.
  • Remains active in the engagement profession and keeps LECOM visible among peer institutions.
  • Assists in Institutional event coordination for various ceremonies and activities.
  • Contributes to the Mission of LECOM by participating in fundraising and outreach activities.
  • Works cooperatively and collegially with others, consistent with EEO rules and regulations.
