About the position
The Peabody Essex Museum is seeking an experienced Institutional Archivist to manage and promote its institutional archives, which include the official records of the museum and its predecessor organizations. This role involves organizing, preserving, and making accessible both physical and digital archives, while collaborating with various departments to enhance the museum's archival practices. The position offers a unique opportunity to build the official archive of one of the oldest continuously operating museums in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Survey and scope the institutional archives of the Peabody Essex Museum.
- Organize, describe, and preserve physical and digital archival materials.
- Develop policies and procedures for archival management based on best practices.
- Manage the transfer of institutional records to the archives.
- Select materials for exhibitions and programs to share with the public.
- Serve as an ambassador for the archives to the museum's communities and audiences.
- Collaborate with staff across various departments, including Registration, Curatorial, Collections Management, Finance, and Information Technology.
Requirements
- Minimum of three years of post-graduate professional experience in processing archives and preparing finding aids.
- Familiarity with ArchivesSpace and current records management standards and best practices.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Willingness to take initiative and demonstrate flexibility in a dynamic environment.
- Commitment to continuous learning, including new technologies.
- Strong interpersonal skills and public speaking experience.

Benefits
- Competitive salary range of $60,000 to $63,000 based on experience.
- Full-time position with a 35-hour work week.
