Department: Facilities One (1) Temporary Provisional (TPV), full-time (40 hrs/week), full year positions. Under the general supervision of the college recycling department; performs a variety of manual and general labor tasks in the connection with the operation and maintenance of the college’s sustainable waste management program and zero waste objectives. This position is responsible for all aspects of service; transport, collection, and maintenance of the college waste management programs at assigned center locations and performs related duties as required. Nature of Position: This position works with the college recycling, custodial and student work crews in collaboration with the college waste diversion goals, and the implementation of the San Francisco Recycling and Composting Ordinance. Waste management team has a work schedule that is followed at the various buildings on Ocean campus and centers. Recycling job specifics will apply to each Center facility; Require the following physical skills and work environment: the ability to drive to various work-related sites; to work occasionally on weekends and nights; and may involve some dirty and disagreeable work conditions. Employees will be required to lift 50 - 70 pounds depending upon the position.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in the maintenance of buildings and grounds; OR
  • Six months experience in Class 7524 Institutional Utility Worker, general labor, waste management, or recycling service fields ; AND
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver license (attach a copy to the application).

Responsibilities

  • Collects, sorts, cleans and removes recycling materials around Ocean college campus buildings and centers; consolidates and loads recycling into on-site sorters and bins, recycling materials onto trucks for transport to disposal site, or into dumpsters for removal. Makes contact with appropriate vendors, such as recycling, garbage, and waste management and/or non-profit agencies for recycle, reuse, or refurbish.
  • Operates a motor vehicle while transporting a variety of items which include but not limited to recycling materials, refuse, equipment, furniture, food compost. This includes items for pick-up and/or delivery of recycling and related materials. Use forklift, hand tools, loader and lifters, and compaction equipment. May operate a motor vehicle in the transfer of recycling staff and/or student workers.
  • Performs all aspects of recycling and compost service collection and sorting. Assists Centers in daily waste management tasks.
  • Performs general maintenance and labor tasks related to all recycling and waste management operations. Maintains loading dock areas, and collection sites. Install zero-waste program infrastructure.
  • Assists in conducting waste audits. Applies informational signage.
  • Assists others in daily tasks related with recycling and waste management tasks.
  • Manages hazardous waste stream of electronics and universal waste.
  • Moves & dismantles furniture, perform minor repairs for the college Re-Use program.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
