Under general supervision, perform carpentry, painting, plastering, and dry wall construction, repair and maintenance of various structures, such as, walls, ceiling, floors, furniture, equipment, partitions, and other structures within the hospital building, using hand and power tools.

  • Performs carpentry, painting, plastering/dry wall and a variety of general maintenance, repair, overhaul and construction duties throughout the hospital in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Constructs building additions, repairs and modifies floors, ceilings, walls, doors, window frames, broken furniture, window hardware, cabinets, and door knobs. Refinishes wooden surfaces.
  • Repairs or replaces glass windows or worn ceiling tiles; builds scaffolding and cement forms and assists other departmental personnel in handling various materials on major repair or installation projects.
  • Reads blueprints or specifications to determine the procedure of constructing cabinets, furniture, partition, shelving and other articles.
  • Measures and marks in prescribed dimensions on stock using rulers, tape measure, calipers, compass and marking pencil to guide cutting operations.
  • Installs floor boards and coverings such as linoleum and asphalt tile. Cuts covering material for counters using a knife or saw and glues it to counters.
  • Applies paint, wall coverings, ceramic tile, floor tile and ceiling tile to prepared surface.
  • Installs doors, doorframes and hardware.
  • Calculates the quantity of materials, lumber, hardware and other supplies such as nails, screws and glue to repair structures.
  • Performs assigned tasks during emergency situations (Code 1, Dr. Rose, snow storms, electrical outages, etc.). Reports any unsafe conditions or practices to supervisor.
  • Prepares surfaces for painting by filling, patching, spackling, scraping, and mixing paint.
  • Assists in maintaining required records, reports, work orders, and miscellaneous information as to document work assignments, as required, in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Education: 2 year trade school program in carpentry or four years apprenticeship.
  • Licensure: Valid state-issued driver’s license.
  • Experience: 4 years experience in carpentry to gain the expertise necessary to perform a variety of carpentry and woodworking duties.
  • Skills: Skill in data analysis and interpretation, ability to re-key locks, ability to read blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches, etc., skill in using power and hand tools, skill in finish carpentry, painting, surface finishing.
