The Installation Assistant at the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design is a temporary, part-time role focused on gallery preparation and exhibition installation. The position involves hands-on work with art handling and installation, ensuring best practices are followed. The role is integral to the exhibition changeover periods, which occur two to six weeks throughout the year, and requires in-person attendance at the Stamps Gallery in Ann Arbor, MI.

  • Prepare art objects for display
  • Install and deinstall art objects and exhibition elements
  • Pack and unpack art for storage, transportation, and gallery/exhibitions
  • Assist with transportation and storage of artwork
  • Prepare, install and de-install objects of all media types (2D, 3D, new media, and installations)
  • Install digital and tech-intensive multimedia artworks and troubleshoot technical issues
  • Fabricate and construct mounts and conduct minor cleaning
  • 1+ years of experience handling artwork in a variety of media from delicate works on paper to large-scale sculptures
  • Demonstrated knowledge of techniques used in exhibition preparation
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and exhibition design plans
  • Working knowledge of small tools, carpentry and woodworking, and basic construction
  • Experience painting and preparing walls for painting
  • Ability to regularly move 30+ lbs
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at height, and work overhead
