About The Position

The Plumbing Inspector V is responsible for inspecting residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing systems and installations to ensure compliance with adopted governmental codes, safety and sanitation standards, and approved construction specifications. This position enforces plumbing regulations, provides guidance to contractors and the public, and maintains accurate documentation of inspections and code compliance actions.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a related discipline plus three (3) years of experience, or a minimum of eight (8) years of experience as a plumbing inspector or code enforcement officer in a municipal setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current Texas State Plumbing Examiners - Plumbing Inspector License, or obtain within one (1) year of hire.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License with a good driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).
  • Texas Department of Health Code Enforcement Officer registration, or ability to complete program within one (1) year of hire.
  • Experience in large-scale commercial or industrial plumbing inspections.
  • Previous experience mentoring or training junior inspectors.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect water supply, drainage, sewer, water heating, and air/gas piping systems for compliance with approved materials, pipe sizes, connections, proper grade, fittings, bracing, ventilation, and air- and water-tightness.
  • Verify installation of approved backflow prevention devices and other safety measures.
  • Interview plumbers working in the jurisdiction to confirm possession of valid occupational licenses and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Investigate complaints of alleged plumbing code violations, gather evidence, and provide testimony in legal proceedings or administrative hearings as necessary.
  • Maintain thorough records of inspections, actions taken, corrections required, and compliance verification.
  • Review plumbing blueprints and construction plans to ensure conformity with established codes and regulations; provide recommendations for required corrections.
  • Administer occupational license programs as assigned by the Permit Department or Building Official.
  • Work the assigned schedule and comply with City timekeeping and attendance policy.
  • Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements.
  • Follow all city safety guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned as assigned by the Building Official or senior department staff.
