About The Position

Inspector II/ District Four/ District Maintenance/ Ft Lauderdale Maintenance - Security This position will conduct detailed inspections of equipment, facilities, or construction projects to verify compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements. Document findings, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions. Interpret technical specifications, using inspection tools and testing equipment, and collaborating with engineers, contractors, or management.

Requirements

  • This position requires a valid Class E driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Perform independent complex technical assignments to accomplish inspection and monitoring of work activities performed within the state Right of Way. Verifies that work is performed according to all State and Federal specifications, plans, permits, policies, procedures, statutes and rules. Performs approved testing techniques through the use of hand tools, gauges and/or instruments to ensure materials used conform to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) requirements.
  • Perform interpretation of governing documents related to authorized Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) device usage, installation/placement and materials to ensure safe work zones. Reviews work site activities for conformity to safety regulations and takes corrective measures when deficiencies are noted.
  • Prepares records and reports for work completed and other related documents accurately and in a timely manner. Prepares all documentation in order to validate payments to roadway contractors.
  • Conducts surveys of signs, guardrail, and attenuators as required by procedures. Provides survey of roadway items to be inventoried for Roadway Characteristics Inventory (RCI). Fills out data coding sheet and enters roadway data into computer data base as needed. Gathers data and performs preliminary reviews for maintenance contract needs. Assists in the preparation of maintenance contracts. Prepares specifications as needed for use in maintenance contracts.
  • Conducts/attends pre-work conferences on maintenance contracts and attends/conducts meetings with contractors/utility owners/permittees throughout life of projects as assigned. Acts as a representative of the Department on all issues related to contracts and permits. Issues work documents on contracts as directed.
  • Performs plans reviews for constructability and adherence to Department Standards and specifications. Provides comments on Department policies and procedures as requested.
