About The Position

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency.
  • Valid Class E driver license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Skilled in communicating technical information verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and interpret plans, specifications, design standards, and manuals.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge to perform field inspections for compliance with FDOT roadway standards.
  • Skill in using personal computers and understanding databases.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as stooping, climbing, and bending.

  • Experience in contract administration or project management.
  • Familiarity with Florida Department of Transportation standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform independent complex technical assignments to inspect and monitor work activities within the state Right of Way.
  • Verify that work is performed according to all State and Federal specifications, plans, permits, policies, procedures, statutes, and rules.
  • Conduct approved testing techniques using hand tools, gauges, and instruments to ensure materials conform to FDOT requirements.
  • Prepare records and reports for work completed and related documents accurately and timely.
  • Interpret governing documents related to Temporary Traffic Control device usage and ensure safe work zones.
  • Review work site activities for conformity to safety regulations and take corrective measures when deficiencies are noted.
  • Conduct surveys of signs, guardrail, and attenuators as required by procedures.
  • Provide survey of roadway items for Roadway Characteristics Inventory (RCI) and enter data into computer database.
  • Assist in the preparation of maintenance contracts and specifications as needed.
  • Conduct/attend pre-work conferences on maintenance contracts and meetings with contractors/utility owners/permitees.
  • Perform quarterly surveys of invasive plant species within the FDOT Right of Way using GPS and maintain records.
  • Assemble payment packages for contracts and assist with public records requests.
  • Prepare project correspondence and records during contract administration.
