Job Summary Job Description Overview The Inspector I inspects, investigates, and identifies violations of city codes for water infrastructure, pipes, and construction. Performs a wide range of general inspections ensuring proper water delivery, management, and drainage. Essential Functions Conducts and performs a wide range of inspections and maintenance on various water and wastewater equipment to ensure safety; works closely with other laborers to identify challenging and complex issues and ensure appropriate resolution occurs. 2 Inputs inlets and performs general maintenance when requested; administers preventative maintenance ensuring safety and operation. 3 Assists in the set up of safe work zones; ensures all barricades and cones are appropriately placed, assists mechanics with various actions, inspections, cleanings, and maintenance. 4 Inspects and maintains piping, collection tanks, and other water management equipment; determines the need for maintenance, the type and quantity of material needed for repair, and the quality and progress of work contracted to outside vendors. 5 Regulates and maintains an effective ground transportation system of vehicles for hire following municipal ordinances and standards to ensure safe public transportation services for the City of Dallas; ensures that vehicles and equipment are roadworthy and driven by qualified and approved drivers and that services are provided as required by city code. 6 Inputs inlet inspections and cleanings into the Lucity data management systems for inventory purposes; ensures all paper work is turned in to the necessary file or Supervisor. 7 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of inspection practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Water infrastructure and equipment for City.
  • Knowledge of applicable standards, ordinances, laws, and regulations.
  • Ability to use power and hand maintenance tools, inspection tools, and precision test equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications, depending on assignment.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply City codes and ordinances.
  • Ability to effectively enforce city codes and code-related rules and regulations with firmness, tact, and impartiality.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of experience in public utility or public works construction which include assuring compliance with construction codes/plans, safety regulations and/or federal, state and local codes/regulations.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • MS Office or similar software skills

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher in a construction management or engineering field will meet the education and experience requirements.
